Catholic Movies on Netflix

By Colleen Hammond, in Catholic Church, Family Life | 9 Responses 9 Comments

Patrick Madrid just found Catholic movies on Netflix. I must admit, it’s the only reason I subscribed a couple of years ago–I didn’t want to purchase all the Catholic movies and there are very few secular DVDs I care to view! Anyway, here is his list. Do you have any more to add?

Hate Speech? U. of IL Professor FIRED Over Catholic Beliefs

By Colleen Hammond, in Bioethics, Catholic Church, News, Politics, Prayers, Religion | 4 Responses 4 Comments

Professor Ken Howell teaches (or rather, taught) a class on Catholicism at the University of Illinois. In that class, evidently the topic of homosexuality came up and Prof Howell said he agree with the Church’s teaching. A student (who remains anonymous) had a friend file a complaint for him and continues to remain anonymous, and Prof. Howell was fired.

Third Anniversary of Summorum Pontificum

By Colleen Hammond, in Catholic Church, Freedom, Latin Mass, Motu Proprio | 2 Responses 2 Comments

Our friend Tim at St. Louis Catholic has a fabulous round up and reflection for today. Portion below:

Today marks the third anniversary of the great Apostolic Letter given motu proprio, Summorum Pontificum. Today marks three years of steps on the long road back. May God abundantly bless Pope Benedict XVI for this heroic act of justice. May God bless the souls of all who worked to bring it about. May God grant eternal rest to those faithful warriors of the faith now passed away, who fought to keep the Mass alive. And may God have mercy on those who sought to wreck the liturgy, and who thus destabilized the faith it supports.

HT to A Blog for Dallas Catholics for finding this Blog post from First Things (which includes the audio files):

10. “Pescador de los Hombres” (Lord, When You Stood by the Seashore)

According to some sources, this was the favorite hymn of Pope John Paul II.

Twilight Eclipse: I was TOO KIND

By Colleen Hammond, in Family Life, Feminism, Parenting | 4 Responses 4 Comments

Since I viewed the first trailer, I’ve been saying that the Twilight series was another step in the de-Christianization of our culture…but I had no idea how bad really it was! I’m with this reviewer….I WAS TOO KIND BEFORE!

Tremendous review of the Twilight series by Jasmine Baucham.
