Regular readers know my take on stem cell research: adult stem cells have been used to treat and cure over 70 different diseases.
Embryonic stem cells? ZERO!!!!
Yet, scientists are still messing around with embryonic cells. WHY?
The new debate is over eggs that are “left over” from women trying to conceive through in-vitro fertilization. These eggs, which contain the full potential of life (the article points out the recent “virgin births” in sharks), are coaxed with chemicals to GROW for a few days. Then, they remove the stem cells.
The question: Is a soul present?
“My view is that if these grow as organized embryos for the first few days and then arrest, they may just be very short-lived human beings,” he said.
“One is very possibly dealing with a defective human being. And at a minimum, the benefit of the doubt should be given here, and these embryos should not be created for the purposes of destroying them.”
This is an interesting column, and the comments that follow it are enlightening as well. It really gives you a sense where our society is coming from!
