Ya think they’d mention the deaths…?
I’ve blogged various stories and warnings about Gardasil in the past couple of years, and Judicial Watch has been following the killer vaccine Gardasil for much longer. In the first few months after Gardasil’s release, there were reports of
up to 20 deaths, 140 “life threatening” reactions, 10 spontaneous abortions, and 6 cases of Guillain-Barre from the Gardasil vaccine reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). THOSE ARE ONLY THE REPORTED SIDE EFFECTS.
Well, now at least the FDA is admitting to the fainting issue…
Here’s the story in the Wall Street Journal:
The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday strengthened warnings on Merck & Co.’s Gardasil vaccine about fainting after receiving reports of “traumatic injuries” among some vaccine recipients.
In a posting aimed at health-care professionals posted on the agency’s Web site, the FDA said all vaccine recipients should remain seated or lying down and be closely observed for 15 minutes following vaccination, “to prevent falls and injuries.”
Gardasil was approved in June 2006 and is designed to protect against four strains of the human papillomavirus, or HPV, two of which account for about 70% of cervical-cancer cases. It’s recommended that girls ages 11 to 12 receive the vaccine in a three-dose series before they are sexually active, and it coincides with recommendations on other vaccines.
The FDA said that since October 2007 a discussion about fainting has been in Gardasil’s labeling for both the health-care provider and the patient. However, warnings about fainting have been strengthened and moved to a more prominent place on the drug label and on information that is supposed to be given to patients before they are vaccinated. The new materials were approved by the agency Wednesday.

OK – bear in mind that a report to the VAERS does not demonstrate a causal relationship between the vaccine and an event. No causal relationship between the vaccine and any side effects, apart from fainting, has ever been demonstrated. Given the millions of vaccine doses that have been administered, some people might die near the time they recieved the vaccine. Given the evidence, they almost certainly died of unrelated causes. Ditto for the other adverse events. Finally, gardasil has 50% less reports to the VAERS than average. Feel free to dispute gardasil on moral grounds (e.g. promoting promiscuity) – but PLEASE do not base your arguments on anecdotes. Anecdotes are not evidence. FDA recommendations are based on good science. Your arguments appear to be based on a very poor understanding of science and medicine.
Dr Diane Harper who was contracted by Merck to head the clinical trials for gardasil, has now spoken out saying she has concerns regarding this vaccine. Here in New Zealand she asked our Ministry of Health not to proceed with the “In Schools Vaccination Programme” that our government should take a wait and see approach, as to what long term effects will present in the 23 million girls already vaccinated. I chose to base my decision on the advice of Dr Harper as she is one of the few who can give “credible” advice on Gardasil. Eric, I think you better check your statements. 50%less reports to the Vaers??? What vaccines or drugs get more than gardasil? You know the best comparsion might be vaccines that given to women of the same age etc. What are reports for let’s say the polio vaccine vs. gardasil? Remember the United States government provides protection for certain groups. The U.S. military is one. Can you imagine if you have lawsuits coming out of you ears if you could “sue” the military willy nilly. The United States government protects these vaccine makers from lawsuits due to the good they provide for society. I am sure this vaccine would be looked at more closely if someone could sue Merck directly, but you and I both know that’s not going to happen. Have you looked at your own government web sites. Remember someone sued McDonalds and won for “hot” coffee? Remember the massive cigarette lawsuit by the states against cigarette makers? How many millions of fen-phen pills were popped before the government listened and said, “Hey! Wait a minute. We were wrong. This drug isn’t save and effective.” Recently, there was a study to show one the cholesterol drugs is worthless. How did it get on the market unless some studies showed it was safe and effective. I know from personal knowledge and experience that bad reactions to drugs and treatment are not always reported. Doctors are not required to tell you they have a financial interest in selling you drug A or drug B.
You said, “some people might die near the time they received the vaccine..” Have you read the situation of these deaths as reported by their loved ones. Some of these girls were listed in good health, under 20 yrs old and their deaths were listed as “unknown” or natural causes but those causes are not listed. What is natural about a 15 year w/o drugs in her system or any history of health problems just dying.
I’m a little steamed Eric, because in college in the 1980′s, I read up on women health issues. Believe it or not, doctors have known for decades (sounds like the cigarette makers playbook) that multiple partners meant a higher occurence of cervical cancer. Doctors were not telling women to limit their partners or wait until marriage even tho it could save someone’s life. Doctors gave the pill to young women and left the lecture and purity in church. So women died because telling a woman to wait even tho it might save their life sounded too breachy. It took years to found out why more bed partners meant a higher risk of cervical cancer. There was a cause and effect not just a correlation. Doctors could have saved women, by using that correlation findings. Remember when we said smoking may cause cancer? Even telling a woman to wait until marriage or at least a clear blood test isn’t done today. Today, we still say use “protection.” We can’t advertise cigarettes on tv, perhaps one brave network can stop the drug jokes and risky behavior that is done on today’s shows. Maybe someone can be alive because of it.
I once argued with someone that not everyone could get aids. If you didn’t have gay sex, bi sex, use needles or get a blood transfusion, you couldn’t get aids like “everyone” else with risky behavior. Was I going to get aids from sitting next to gay man or something. The government does always provide the correct message.
Seriously, Eric, go to Salon and read the swine flu story and president Ford. If it wasn’t such a big costly mistake you could laugh your head off.
If you don’t need the vaccine, why get it? Your child might have a bad reaction to it and will never forgive yourself. Girls are not going to get cervical cancer or aids from toilet seats. We both know how they can risk their health. Teach them the safest way to stay healthy. It’s ok for John Lennon to say some plain thing like “Give peace a chance” and all the hippies go crazy in love, but when the Pope does it or Mother Theresa they are called naive and idoits. Just say “No! I’m not a Ho!” Simple but effective (or more effective and safe than Gardasil). Make Merck pay damages and they’ll test it more than on 21,000 women during clinicals.
p.s. I think if you called cdc, they now admit to more than “fainting” as a adverse reaction.
My daughter was harmed by the Gardasil vaccine. It took me two years and severe illness for me to figure out why she was always sick. Then I finally googled auto-immune disorders and gb/gardasil came up. This is an extremely dangerous vaccine that is loaded with metal. It caused my daughter to go into menopause at age 19. She was having severe migraines, severe pneumonia, dehydration, hair falling out. I finally figured it out (Thank God for that!). There is a light at the end of the tunnel for those that have had it (if they haven’t died or been permanently maimed yet). Homeopathic diet – gluten-free/sugar-free/casein-free and bottled/distilled water. This will help them on the road to recovery. They will also need extra vitamins – B12, D3, magnesium, a liver boost (to help your liver while your body eliminates the metals) and after a few months of that, they need to introduce niacin (a SMALL DOSE!) which will bind with the metals in their body to be eliminated.
Thank goodness parents like you have done some postings on the internet. I wish I would have done my homework. The pharmaceutical companies are trying to poison us all in the name of greed. Who’s watching over the american people because surely the FDA and CDC aren’t!!!

My daughter, Victoria, has been ill since February 2008.
Here is some history. My daughter had her first Gardasil vaccination November 2007. Her second vaccination was in the beginning of February 2008. Immediately after her second vaccination, Victoria experienced severe diarrhea, vomiting and was nauseous for about eight weeks. She had blood work done many times and the pediatrician thought she had a virus. On March 31, 2008, she had her first seizure. My daughter has treated with many neurologists, all of whom have not related her seizures to Gardasil. Meanwhile, there are quite a few hundred people that I have found over the internet through my numerous postings and through Erin Brockovich, and their daughters are all experiencing the same symptoms, which occurred after the Gardasil vaccination. We have actually formed a group and share our daughters’ stories, symptoms and information. My daughter has had CT scans, MRI’s, MRA’s, EEG’s, blood work and was hospitalized at an epilepsy center in the video EEG monitoring unit for two separate weeks in May 2008 and September 2008. She was put on many different seizure medications. After the normal EEG results, she was taken off all medications. Her SED rate has always been high and she does have protein in her urine, but doctors do not seem concerned. I was told that her red blood are small, but this apparently is not concerning either. She is also slightly anemic.
My daughter has been seen by several neurologists, a psychiatrist, psychologist, several neuropsychologists, an immunologist, several infectious disease doctors, and also treated a at Wellness Center for a period of time. Wellness Center physicians believe that my daughter may have Lyme disease that was dormant until she was given the Gardasil vaccine. Infectious disease doctors differ. Which doctors are correct? I have no idea.
My daughter currently experiences the following symptoms: non-epileptic seizures, migraines, fainting, tremors, twitches, numbness, intermittent leg paralysis and facial paralysis, tingling, staring or blank episodes, eye pain, joint pain, neck pain, back pain, memory loss, confusion, brain fog, regression, mood swings and chronic fatigue. She continues to have bouts of nausea and diarrhea. She has not been in school since April 2008. My daughter can never be left home alone. She can’t go to school, go out with her friends or work or has little “normalcy” in her life. She has very few good days and always says she doesn’t feel good.
I do not know which way to turn for help. We have seen so many doctors and I can’t seem to find anyone willing to help my daughter. There are so many other young girls who have the same exact symptoms as my daughter and the one thing that all of the girls seem to have in common is the Gardasil vaccination.
We are on a fixed income, as most people, and we have expended many thousands of dollars in an effort to seek medical opinions and assistance. Although we do have medical insurance, it is very difficult to find doctors willing to treat my daughter who will accept our HMO. Also, there are no “traditional medical doctors” who will relate my daughter’s symptoms to Gardasil as I am told “there is not enough information available” about the vaccine and doctors believe it to be “safe” . Most recently, a neurologist informed that he does believe that my daughter’s symptoms were brought on by the vaccine, just not in a way that he could test or prove.
The vaccine has been available for less than three years. Meanwhile, there are some doctors who are making the correlation between Gardasil and many of the girls’ symptoms. However, the only doctors I know of right now are in California and Kansas. Other doctors are willing to “try” treatment, most of which is “homeopathic” in nature and extremely costly. Once again, I must reiterate that there are so many other young girls experiencing negative symptoms.
Each and every night, I check on my daughter many times in the middle of the night to make sure she is still breathing (like we ALL did when they were babies). I have a chime on her bedroom door so that every time she opens it, I know she has walked out of her room. I had a deadbolt put on the front door of our home with a key that can be removed from the inside. I never leave the key in the door for fear that Victoria will be confused after a seizure or when she has memory loss, and leave our home. (This has happened many times and she has been missing). When she is in the shower, I have to either stand outside the door and/or keep asking her “are you okay?”
Each and everyday, I cry and wonder if Victoria will be next one to die from adverse reactions to Gardasil.
We are in desperate need of medical treatment for my daughter. I have run out of ideas, doctors to treat with and finances have dwindled. I do not know which direction to turn. Any thoughts are most appreciated, especially from the medical community.
The National Vaccine Information Center is in the process of circulating a petition to have Gardasil investigated by the government. There are more than 16,000 reported cases of adverse effects from the vaccine which have been reported to the NVIC (many of the adverse effects are extremely serious) and approximately 38 deaths have been reported.

I lost my daughter within 72 hours of receiving this new wonder drug – the worst part is that it was Father’s day 2008.
I would like the world to know that even one death is more than enough to warrant more research into this new wonder drug that we are giving to our young girls. We should have more warnings and parents should do the research for themselves before giving to their daughters (and Merck is pushing to have boys vaccinated soon).
I was a parent who did her research on this drug, went to thewebsite, spoke with my primary care physician–who administered the vaccination in his office after taking her vitals– and no where in the literature does it say that it can cause this very sever reaction or what the signs to watch out for to help determine that there may be a problem. My daughter was with family the whole day and had been shopping for her father’s day present as well as seeing her old teacher. She displayed absolutely NO signs of any distress or problems and we had no warning until after she was gone.

I’m sorry, Colleen, but I have to agree with Eric. You discuss many interesting and important things on your blog from what I can see but, in an attempt to sympathize with some who have suffered tragedy you have fallen into the trap of substituting anecdote for evidence. Epidemiological studies don’t lie. They’re why some vaccines, such as the first Rotavirus vaccine or the oral polio vaccine, have been pulled from the market and why we know that smoking cigarettes often leads to cancer. Tragic stories make for interesting press – which is why you’ll see such stories on Oprah or Nightline – but they prove nothing. Worse yet, you do a disservice to the community by mixing “the sky is falling” warnings with legitimate arguments against a specific vaccine.
As for Gardasil, I tell my patients (I’m a pediatrician) that I would be less inclined to recommend it if it ONLY prevented an STD or if there were little to no chance that my own teenage daughter could contract HPV as long as she made wise decisions regarding her sexual activity…but that’s not the case. We’re talking about a real, proven killer in cervical cancer and, even if my daughter continued to be chaste before (and during) marriage the possibility of either sexual assault or that her future husband may have contracted HPV through his own sexual sins are both real possibilities and I would hate to think that I might have avoided a preventable cancer death in one of my patients…much less my own daughter.

Since the Gardasil vaccine is only effective for 5 years and because regular PAP smears can detect cervical cancer and successfully treat it, does any responsible doctor think the supposed benefits are worth the risks (32 related deaths recorded SO FAR)? If so, why give to YOUNG girls if it’s only effective for 5 years?!?
