St Peter’s Basilica in Rome has a dress code, too!

Shorts, straps, skirts…. all those are on Our Lady of Guadalupe church’s list of inappropriate attire. “It all started because my daughter was asking why she couldn’t wear little shorts to church. I told her that’s not proper for church,” said parish council chair Martha Fernandez. “We should dress in a decent manner so as not to distract.
Our Lady of Guadalupe is not the only church with a dress code.
The Salam Center off College Oak provides dresses and scarves for the women and hats for the men, if need be. “When you go to visit the governor or the president, are you going to visit them in shorts or a mini skirt? How about coming to visit the creator of the governor and the president? I think you should wear your best,” said Salam Center Executive Director Metwalli Amer.
Salam Center office manager Alana Blake says you don’t have to sacrifice style for modesty. “I find modern pieces and then I add sleeves and pants. If it’s a long dress for summer, maxi dresses are in, so, I add a T-shirt or day shirt under it,” she said.
The church says it won’t turn anyone away for wearing something that is less-than-ideal for church, but it does hope people will follow the recommendations at the front entrance.

It’s nice to see a church institute a dress code. However, I think the Sacramento Diocese as a whole ought to have a dress code. For males, it should be long non-denim pants and shirts with sleeves(no t-shirts on church grounds for ANY reason). For females, skirts and dresses that are at least 2″ below the knee, tops with sleeves going at least to the elbow, and, while in churches, head coverings(no pants, shorts, or inappropriate tops).
A parish here in Los Angeles actually has a dress code; females are to wear below-the-knee skirts and dresses, and are to cover their heads in church. They also have to wear appropriate tops.
