Some thoughts from “Raising Homemakers”:

Since Valentine’s Day is here….
I thought it would be a good time to reflect on the subject of radiant purity for young women. A young lady can give her future husband something so priceless, and that is her gift of purity. I have been asked before by many ladies for my recommendation of books that have been most helpful tome in this area. The truth of the matter is, it’s not only books that have inspired me to strive after radiant purity, but most importantly it was the women in my life who impacted me the most. It was the faithful daughter who I saw at Church growing up, who was content in the Lord, pure and satisfied in Him. It was the godly mother who was raising her own daughters in feminine loveliness that made a difference to me and it was my own mother who encouraged me to strive after true Biblical womanhood, no matter what the cost. These are but a few of the women in my life who have encouraged me in a path of purity that is not so popular, nor is it a path taken by many. I plead with you dear reader, do not under estimate your example to other women. Whether young or old,you can have a dynamic influence on that one woman who might be watching your life. Mothers, your calling is sacred and so significant, the magnitude of it is immense, you have the ability to help steer your daughter’s heart toward godly chastity. The Lord can use your influence and example to affect the many generations to come, who will be shining cornerstones for God’s glory!

It’s never too soon to start teaching purity to our children, and it’s never too soon to teach them to pray for a future spouse! Here is a prayer that comes from our parish bulletin:

Prayer for a Good Husband or Wife-

O  Jesus, lover of the young, the dearest Friend I have, in all confidence I open my heart to You to beg Your light and assistance in the important task of planning my future. Give me the light of Your grace, that I may decide wisely concerning the person who is to be my partner through life. Dearest Jesus, send me such a one whom in Your divine Wisdom You judge best suited to he united with me in marriage. May her/his character reflect some of the traits of Your own Sacred Heart. May s/he be upright, loyal, pure, sincere and noble, so that with united efforts and with pure and unselfish love we both may strive to perfect ourselves in soul and body, as well as the children it may please You to entrust to our care. Bless our friendship before marriage, that sin may have no part in it. May our mutual love bind us so closely, that our future home may ever be most like Your own at Nazareth.

O Mary Immaculate, sweet Mother of the young, to your special care I entrust the decision I am to make as to my future wife/husband. You are my guiding Star! Direct me to the person with whom I can best cooperate in doing God’s Holy Will, with whom I can live in peace, love and harmony in this life, and attain to eternal joys in the next. Amen.
