Update on my Dad’s Cancer Diagnosis

“Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away: as it hath pleased the Lord so is it done: blessed be the name of the Lord.” (Jobe 1:21)

Well, we know that Dad has Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC). What we didn’t know was that it was in his lymph and his bones as well as his lungs. (His PET and MRI tomorrow will tell us more.) That “cancer spread” shortens his life-expectancy greatly–down to a few months, actually.

But the good thing about Cancer is that it gives us time to say adieu… “until we meet again in Eternity”. And it gives my parents time to reflect on their life together, plan the paperwork, and most importantly for my Dad to make those final preparations of his soul for meeting Our Lord.

Father went to my parent’s home today to bring my Dad the Blessed Sacrament, hear his Confession, and administer Extreme Unction–or, if you prefer, the Sacrament of the Sick. Father called me afterwards and said that my Dad was at peace with his imminent passing.

The children and I are heading to Michigan and my husband will join us a few days later. Please pray for my entire family!

  1. I’m very sorry and your family will be in my prayers. My father-in-law passed away a couple of weeks ago from Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. We were first given a scare he might pass Good Friday of last year. Those 17 months were a blessing. We went to see him a couple of times, my husband went several times, we got to show him AND tell him we loved him more than we could count and everyone in the family went to him. When he finally refused treatment it was his time to go, and he was ready. He died the next day. Death is not easy for any of us but in these circumstances it does allow us to say plenty of goodbyes.

  2. Oh my dear, you do have my prayers. I’m so glad he’s got the time, however, to receive the vital Sacraments that will convery him, I pray, into the loving arms of our Savior.

  4. Ill be praying for you and your family! Didnt know about your father had cancer until today. I recently learned about a cancer treatment that maybe of interest to you and others. It is non toxic compared to chemotherapy. Here is the patients website
This website was developed by The Patients of Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski, MD. Its purpose is to collect and disseminate testimonials from some of the past and present patients of Dr. Burzynski whose cancers were successfully treated using his advanced cancer treatment.
Dr. Burzynski’s non toxic therapy treats cancer without the terrible side effects of conventional methods. We bear witness to the success of his antineoplaston discovery and invite the public to examine the proof, which is confirmed by our medical records.
    RAISING AWARENESS
Much attention has been focused on Dr. Burzynski’s antineoplaston therapy for patients who are terminally ill, and rightly so.
(on the left side of this page is video testimonies of persons cured of brain, lung, liver cancers on the right side is written testimonies of those treated for brain, breast cancer, etc.) There is a movie called “Burzynski: Cancer Is Serious Business” that I think people should watch. http://www.burzynskipatientgroup.org/

    1. Another plus the Burzynski Clinic, it does NOT support Planned Parenthood or human embronic stem cell research!

  5. Colleen, I will continue to pray for your father, and the rest of your family.

  6. My prayers are with you.
