  1. Wow!! Where’d you find that picture?

  2. Colleen, I suspect you’ll hear back from that church’s parish office before long. In the event that you don’t, I’ve enlarged and tried to (slightly) enhance the bottom of the sign that appears to have the printer/manufacturer’s telephone contact info. See:

Oddly, a preliminary search for this sign online under “modesty sign” doesn’t seem to turn up any definite, specific reference to it. I suspect a bit of intercession by the BVM should close the loop soon enough, however!

  3. Awesome sign!!! I would love to get one for our church.

  4. Colleen – we have this sign at our parish church – it is proudly posted just outside the front door… You can call our parish office and ask where it was purchased.

I hope you are able to find it.

  5. Ever hear anything?

  6. Let us know when you find it!

  7. Colleen,

First, I’ll state up front that I (like I guess most guys) struggle when a woman comes to church dressed like she’s headed for a trendy/sexy night club or something — necklines especially (for me, as I could care less about skirts). I completely support modesty.

That said, I think it’s despicable to put ANY sign on a church that could turn away any sinner from coming in to hear the Gospel. If the church building is a “Members Only” facility whereby you could expect everyone who attends to abide by some strict members’ rules, well, OK. But there is no verse in the Bible that says any such thing about our services. Do you think the whores to whom Jesus ministered were first told to go home and change? No. So if Jesus receives them as-is, then so much the church.

There’s a great line in a great Casting Crowns song called “What This World Needs” and it has the lines:

    “What this world needs
is for us to care more about the inside than the outside.
Have we become so blind that we can’t see
God’s gotta change her heart before He changes her shirt?”

What they’re singing about, of course, is judging or outright debarring entry to non-Christians because they don’t dress like Christians.

    1. Regarding Phil’s comment, he’s one of those people who seems to think that either we focus on what’s inside or we have a sense of decorum(and guidelines when needed). This is not about trying to be, as he puts it, a “Member’s Only” club.

  8. I’d be willing to recreate something similar if I could: 1) find a place that would manufacture them at a reasonable price, and 2) Those ordering the first ones would be willing to provide photos of them posted at their parishes and testimonials on how the signs have improved the devotional environment thereof (I would be willing to give discounts for these resources).

  10. Hi,
I googled “Modesty Sign” and found your image. I’m actually the one who designed it, first for St. Peter Chanel in Hawaiian Gardens, CA. Since then a few other nearby parishes have ordered it. Yes, it was inspired the one at the Vatican.

I have the artwork and a few more stands although there were a couple of inquiries this week. Costs me about $100 each to make and I don’t make any money from them. My hope was to distribute it to whoever needed it – but it does take some work.

If you’re thinking of churches, I’d suggest getting the pastor on board first before getting the sign. He might need to speak about it in a homily and/or the bulletin, and be prepared for some angry parishioners. Unfortunately not all pastors are comfortable putting up the sign I have found.

You can contact me at truongbraveheart@yahoo.com or 562-400-4027 (the number you have obviously was a typo).

    Blessings,
    Peter
