This new ad opposing a Maine ballot initiative that would reverse the recent legalization of gay marriage in the state features a Roman Catholic mom. “I’ve been a Catholic all my life. My faith means a lot to me,” she says, as her son, his male partner, and their son sit nearby. “Marriage to me is a great institution that works, and it’s what I want for my children, too.”
The conservative Catholic group CatholicVoteAction.org today is calling for the ad to come down. Here’s part of a statement the group just sent out:
CatholicVoteAction.org President Brian Burch said, “For decades gay and lesbian groups have attacked the Catholic Church for refusing to accept their skewed views on human sexuality and marriage. Having lost that battle, they have now launched this desperate and despicable attempt to curry favor with Catholics by pretending that the Catholic faith supports their radical agenda.”
….
“Everybody knows the Catholic Church is opposed to counterfeit marriages . . . . For homosexual groups to suggest that the Catholic Church believes otherwise is disingenuous, dishonest, and an insult to the intelligence of Catholic voters in Maine,” said Burch.
“We call on Protect Maine Equality to stop lying about our faith and to immediately pull this ad from the airwaves and from YouTube,” said Burch.

How deceptive of Protect Maine Equality to use a “Catholic” to try to further their own agenda. I hope that everyone can see that this is pure propaganda put out by their organization.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. They’re desperate!!! But it shows that people really do know what the Catholic Faith ACTUALLY teaches about gay marriage that they have to misrepresent it this way.
I feel very saddened that there are some people that want to pull the wool over their eyes to the real truth. ” God Made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve or Mary and Jane. If Our Father in Heaven would have wanted it this way, none of the people that have lived and are living in this world that God gave for all of his creatures would exist at all. God forgive them for they do not know what they are doing, but if they keep on hurting our Lord and Savior with this Obomination they will surely bring on the End of Time and God help us all. AMEN
Virginia, it’s nice to see that, in addition to saying “God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve”, you’ve added proof that God comes down on lesbians as well. Some people are so thick-headed as to act like it’s okay for females to have “relations” with each other(even if they seem to get how wrong homosexual male acts are). In fact, I read in the “Long Beach Press-Telegram” about 16 1/2 years ago saying that society was more accepting of lesbians than of male homosexuals. I also read that people(both male and female) were more okay with opposite-sex homosexuals than of homosexuals of their own sex. I was both surprised and not surprised at the same time(I’ll go into details some other time).
I know this is cliche, but homosexuality is not a choice. Since you would not condemn someone based on their race or ethnicity, why do you believe its acceptable to claim that gays are “hurting our Lord” and will bring about the apocalypse? This knee-jerk reaction to proclaim homosexuality an abomination is just as ignorant as racism.
