How to be Open to God’s Will and Live a Happy Life: Sunday’s Meditation
Eighth Sunday after Pentecost
The Gospel according to St. Luke, 16:1-9
“At that time Jesus spoke to His disciples this parable: There was a certain rich man who had a steward; and the same was accused unto him, that he had wasted his goods. And he called him, and said to him: How is it that I hear this of thee? Give an account of thy stewardship, for now thou canst be steward no longer. And the steward said within himself: What shall I do, because my lord taketh away from me the stewardship? To dig I am not able; to beg I am ashamed. I know what I will do, that when I shall be removed from the stewardship they may receive me into their houses. Therefore, calling together every one of his lord’s debtors, he said to the first: How much dost thou owe my lord? But he said: A hundred barrels of oil. And he said to him: Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty. Then he said to another: And how much dost thou owe? Who said; A hundred quarters of wheat. He said to him: Take thy bill, and write eighty. And the lord commended the unjust steward, forasmuch as he had done wisely; for the children of this world are wiser in their generation than the children of light. And I say to you: Make unto you friends of the mammon of iniquity, that when you shall fail, they may receive you into everlasting dwellings.”

How to Develop a Rule of Life: Time Management for the Soul (Friday’s Meditation)
Meditation for the Morning
Let us adore Our Lord Jesus Christ always keeping engraved, in the middle of His heart, the most holy will of His Father as the only rule of all His actions, whether small or great. Never once did He follow His own will; at every moment His Father’s will was the law of His conduct.(John 8:29) How adorable He is in this life of loving submission to the divine good pleasure! Let us render to Him all our homage with this object in view.

A student (who remains anonymous) had a friend file a complaint for him and continues to remain anonymous, and Prof. Howell was fired.

Summary of Friday’s Meditation
Summary of Tomorrow’s Meditation
We will continue to meditate tomorrow upon the desire to lead a perfect life, and we shall see: First, that this desire is a sign of predestination; second, that it increases in the soul in proportion as we advance in virtue. We will then make the resolution: First, ceaselessly to aspire towards a higher degree of perfection; second, often to recall to ourselves how the saints loved and served God, and to be ashamed that we are so far from them, and to excite ourselves to love and serve God as they did. Our spiritual nosegay shall be the words of the Psalmist: “The just in his heart hath disposed to ascend.” (Ps. 83:6)
